Asterix the Gaul comes to the Highlands

The next Asterix cartoon adventure is to be set in the ancient Highlands.

The episode will be the first not being drawn by the Gaul’s creator Albert Uderzo, the comic book’s publishers said.

Asterix in the Land of the Picts will be launched in October and is set “in a land rich in tradition” with people “proud and attached to their customs, paving the way for a delightful story,” publishers Albert Rene said. The Picts were tribes living in ancient eastern and northern Scotland.

Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil, the SNP’s tourism spokesman and a lifelong Asterix fan, said: “Asterix is a bit of a hero of mine. There is a connection with the Highlands. Asterix the Gaul held out against the Romans and so did the Highlanders of the time.”
