Comics stand up against MND at Fringe fundraiser

COMEDY stars Daniel Kitson, Fred MacAulay and Stephen K Amos have taken part in a comedy show to raise funds for research into motor neurone disease (MND).

The Stand Up Against MND event, which also featured comedians Stewart Francis and Tony Law, took place at Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms as part of the Festival Fringe programme.

MND patient and campaigner Gordon Aikman was among those who attended the fundraising gala.

Making a plea to fund a cure for future generations, he said: “Let there be no mistake; MND is a death sentence. It affects how I eat, how I breathe and it is the reason why I am in this wheelchair at just 30 years old.

“Soon it will kill me. It’s too late for me, but with your help there can be hope to find a cure for the next generation.”

Mr Aikman was diagnosed with MND at the age of 29 and, since his diagnosis, has raised over ÂŁ300,000 for research into a cure for the disease.

Mr MacAulay said: “I’ve met Gordon a few times now and his selfless effort to help find a cure for MND for future generations is inspirational.”
