It is the movie we’ve all been waiting for, following a brief clip of the cast in Netflix’s 2021 film preview trailer in January.
This week, the Don’t Look Up trailer dropped and there have been some reputable predictions about when the movie will premiere on Netflix.
With a stunning cast and cliff-hanger trailer, the dark comedy thriller is set to be the movie of the year and will almost certainly feature in award nominations next year.
So, what is the movie about and who stars in the cast? This is everything we know so far about Don’t Look Up.
What is Don’t Look Up about?
The movie follows two underrated astronomers as they attempt to warn the world that a comet is hurtling towards Earth.
The consequences of the comet? It could wipe out all of humanity. The other problem? The President of the United States isn’t too concerned about what two unknown star-gazers think.
The pair begin a media campaign to warn the world of the comet, but will they save Earth on time? Only the all star cast know what the outcome will be.
Who is cast in Don’t Look Up?
Leonardo DiCaprio is a far cry from his Wolf on Wall Street ambition in this dark comedy, as he takes on the role of Dr. Randall Mindy.
His co-lead is no stranger to saving Earth, as Avengers star Jennifer Lawrence portrays Kate Dibiasky. The pair of astronomers offer an unlikely friendship, bringing witty humour to Don’t Look Up’s tense storyline.
As if the lead pair weren’t impressive enough, supporting actors include Jonah Hill (DiCaprio’s right hand man in Wolf on Wall Street) and Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia, The Iron Lady).
Streep plays the President, who is uninterested in the warning of Earth’s doom, while Hill is her Chief of Staff and equally unimpressed by the two astronomers.
Don’t Look Up release date
Don’t Look Up is coming to Netflix on December 24, 2021, according to a report from Collider.
It is expected that this will be Netflix’s Christmas blockbuster, it’s hard to imagine what other movie could out-do such a stunning line-up and gripping plot.
Don’t Look Up trailer
At the beginning of August, a short teaser of the trailer was released on Twitter, and already we could tell it was going to be a must-see.
Then, the official trailer dropped on 8 September. Viewers watch as DiCaprio’s dishevelled character takes a panic attack in a public toilet, telling himself he is “here now,” as if to egg himself on to present his findings.
It cuts to Lawrence, watching as the comet free-falls towards Earth and US fighter jets fly in formation, as if preparing for action.
Short clips show the pair presenting their concerns on US TV networks and then to the President and her chief of staff, who tells the pair he isn’t interested and laughs off the never ending “the world is going to end” conspiracies.
The trailer also gives us a first look at Timothée Chalamet, Tyler Perry and, of course, Ariana Grande.
