Here is everything you need to know about Stay Close.

What is Stay Close about and is it based on a book?

Stay Close is a crime drama about a group of people living comfortable lives, each haunted by dark secrets – their suburban lifestyle is soon disrupted, though, when an old friend returns with shocking news that brings the past right into the present.

Stay Close is based on a book of the same name by Harlan Coben, who has also written this adaptation. It is the fifth Harlan Coben novel to be adapted by Netflix, with a further nine planned over the next few years.

Who is in the cast?

Cush Jumbo plays Megan, a working mother of three who ran away from a dangerous past. Jumbo has previously starred in The Good Wife and The Good Fight, though you might recognise her from UK crime dramas such as Deadwater Fell and The Beast Must Die.

Jimmy Nesbitt plays Broome, a detective haunted by a missing person’s cold case. Nesbitt is best known for Cold Feet, but he’s also appeared in a number of crime dramas like The Missing, Bloodlands, and Line of Duty.

Richard Armitage plays Ray, a failed documentary photographer now working as a paparazzo. You’ll recognise Armitage from television series like Spooks and Robin Hood, or from films such as Ocean’s 8 The Hobbit trilogy.

The rest of the cast includes Sarah Parish (Broadchurch), Eddie Izzard (6 Minutes to Midnight), Jo Joyner (Ackley Bridge), and Andi Osho (I May Destroy You).

Where can I see the trailer?

You can see the trailer for Stay Close below.

When is it on and how can I watch it?

All eight episodes of Stay Close will be available on Netflix on 31 December.

Where was Stay Close filmed?

Stay Close was filmed in and around Manchester. Some scenes were shot in city centre nightclub Impossible Bar, while others were filmed in Didsbury, just south of Manchester.

It was made by Manchester-based production company RED, who were previously responsible for It’s A Sin and previous Harlan Coben adaptations such as The Stranger and The Five.

Will there be a season 2?

We don’t know for sure, but it’s very unlikely – the eight episodes of Stay Close will adapt the entirety of the Harlan Coben novel it is based on.

What did your Stay Close review say?

Our review said “Stay Close is very watchable. It feels designed to be binged, one episode leading into the next – it’s compelling in the sort of way that makes you want to keep going with it, if not necessarily compelling in the sort of way that you’d remember it in much detail a few months down the line.”

Why should I watch it?

You should watch it if you’re a fan of Cush Jumbo – a fantastic actor in a headline role here – or if you’ve enjoyed previous Harlan Coben crime dramas from Netflix.
