Filming for series 11 was largely affected by the coronavirus travel and work restrictions, which left cast and crew members unable to congregate in the Northumberland countryside the show is set.

So, where was series 11 of Vera filmed, and when is it on TV? This is what you need to know.

The series has been set in the North East countryside since it premiered in 2011 and has increased tourism in the area, an impact known as the ‘Vera effect’.

Therefore, it would only be right to return for the filming of series 11 in 2021 as the cast celebrated the show’s 10th anniversary.

Which Northumberland villages was Vera filmed?

Prior to the series airing, Blethyn spoke about the “striking locations” used to film scenes, including the Northumberland villages of Stamfordham and Matfen.

Residents of the villages in the stunning rural landscape also spotted her filming in Elvaston Park Road, Hexham; Allendale village; Port of Sunderland and Marlborough Park in Washington, Tyne and Wear.

The 75-year-old actress also stopped for an ice cream in the Summer, as she took a break from filming in Corbridge.

However, it wasn’t all sunshine and ice creams as the August weather brought showers which meant Blethyn was forced to take cover under an army of umbrellas while filming scenes on Tynemouth beach.

There were also a number of actors dressed in forensic suits and police officer uniforms at Collington Monument in Tynemouth, as episode one’s body discovery scenes were filmed there.

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne also features, as well as the Shields Ferry, though Blethyn isn’t part of those scenes.

Blethyn and her co-star, Kenny Doughty, were also spotted filming scenes in Gateshead and in South Shields, in a residential area.

Filming then got back underway in October, as the cast rushed to finish filming the final episodes of the New Year.

Blethyn was spotted in her signature mac in Amble, near The Fish Shack on Harbour Road.

Residents of Wallsend then got a midnight treat when a late night shoot took place in Tynedale Avenue and High Farm.

Other sets used in the episodes set to air in 2022 were Citrone Cafe in Front Street, Chester-le-Street and Arlo restaurant in Jesmond, which got a name change for the shoot.
