For some post-lockdown rejuvenation and relaxation for two, this newly-renovated cottage in a quiet corner of the bustling Glencoe area is ideal for a self-catering staycation.
Compact yet spacious for two with flexible accommodation (double or twin beds), aside from the unbeatable location and stunning south-facing views of the Beinn a’ Bheithir mountains, the levels of comfort, cosiness and warmth epitomise owners Barbara and Arra’s aim of providing ‘modern Scottish with a touch of luxury’.
Following a lockdown renovation, they booked themselves in for a four-day anniversary celebration last summer so are confident The Cottage meets the standards they expect themselves.
Aside from the large comfortable bed there is a modern shower room, washing machine and dryer, storage, full kitchen, oak dining area and comfortable lounge seating and lighting.
The owners are next door to provide information and help if required, and pride themselves on championing other local businesses and celebrating the best of what the area has to offer.
Being a self-catering cottage for two helps with compliance in relation to household limits. Other Covid-related advantages include: full kitchen facilities; guest entrance at a safe distance from neighbours; non-touch dispenser with hand sanitiser (locally made with 70% alcohol from a Highland distillery); self check-in with sanitised key safe; guest information by email or digital means; removal of books, maps, brochures (under review); approved cleaning products/procedures; risk assessment undertaken and cleaning checklist.
Budget or boutique?
It’s boutique comfort and style at relatively reasonable prices for the Glencoe area.
Upstairs is the open plan living/dining/sitting area, optimising views and light, while downstairs is the entrance hall with storage, utility, modern shower room and double bedroom with large wardrobe and vanity table. Outside, a picnic table in a private part of the garden takes advantage of amazing mountain views and there is ample private guest parking right by the entrance. The palette of whites, blues, purples, greys and greens in paintwork and textiles mirrors the Highland tones outdoors and makes for a relaxing atmosphere.
Wining and Dining
The Cottage has full kitchen facilities including hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer, for self-catering and eating at the oak dining table. If you prefer not to cook, the recommended local pub/restaurant is within easy walking distance and several others are a short drive or cycle away. Detailed information offered upon booking, including taxi numbers.
Worth Getting Out of Bed For
The views. The great outdoors. The great indoors. The proximity to mountains, landmarks and the local pub.
The Cottage is right on the National Cycle Network Route 78 (NCN 78) also known as The Caledonia Way and bikes and ebikes can be hired. There are Munros and Corbetts galore and check out the WalkHighlands website (https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/). There are Spa treatments, horse-riding, (indoor) ice climbing, gin and rum making and sea safaris close by and the further attractions of Glencoe, Glen Etive, Ben Nevis, Glenfinnan, the West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way, two ski centres, various museums and towns like Oban, Mallaig and Fort William are waiting to be explored and are easily accessible.
In addition to housekeeping starter packs and complimentary The Highland Soap Company products, if guests are celebrating a special occasion, the hosts have been known to put something refreshing in the fridge. And as they put it, ‘Wij spreken ook Nederlands’ as well as English, if you fancy learning a little Dutch.
