A beauty pageant that first ran in 1951 as part of the Festival of Britain, Miss World is still running. This year’s contest will take place in Puerto Rico on March 16. Mixed in with all the glitz and glamour, there have been scandals and controversies as well – even the Pope got involved!
The Miss World competition was moved from its original venue, Nigeria, after violence erupted over the country's hosting of the contest.
