SSPCA plea after ‘Easter bunny’ found near road

An “Easter bunny” has had a narrow escape after being found hopping up to a busy road.

The rabbit was spotted by a driving instructor and her pupil on Monktonhall Terrace in Musselburgh, East Lothian on Wednesday.

Staff at the Scottish SPCA’s Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre are now keen to track down the owner of the floppy-eared friend, who they have named Jerry.

Animal Rescue Officer Duncan Robertson said: “Jerry had a lucky escape as he was on the edge of the pavement when he was spotted by a girl during her driving lesson.

“She was very concerned for his safety so pulled over and rescued him from harm’s way with the help of her instructor.

“Jerry is a lovely big boy and it’s possible he has escaped from his garden nearby.

“It would be lovely if we are able to trace his owner, however, if no-one comes forward we’ll find Jerry a nice new home.”

Anyone who recognises Jerry, who is an adult male lionhead crossbreed rabbit, is being asked to call the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
