Hibs defender could face drink charges

HIBS defender Darren McCormack could face drink-drive charges after allegedly failing a breathalyser test.

The 21-year-old was arrested after officers stopped a car in Leith Walk at 12:45am on Sunday morning. He allegedly failed a breathalyser test at the roadside, but provided a different reading at the police station and is now awaiting blood test results.

He has been charged with driving without a licence or insurance.

McCormack was taken to St Leonards police station for questioning before being charged. He was released hours later with an undertaking to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to face the charges at a later date.

Club bosses today refused to comment on the player's arrest.

McCormack made his league debut for Hibs in a 4-1 win over Kilmarnock in September 2007.

Celtic made an approach to sign him in 2007, but he signed a five-year deal to stay at Easter Road.
