Lunch scandal

Part of the response from an SNP spokesman on "stoviesgate" (your report, 9 February) was the following: "In any event, by definition since no lunches have taken place, it is impossible to argue that anything has been misused."

Anything perhaps but our intelligence and the notion that these people are capable of organising a village hall sale of work, never mind governing us. Does it follow that conspiring to commit any criminal act is legal because the bank has yet to be robbed or the bomb not actually detonated?

Alex Salmond requesting clarification from the parliament's corporate body is simply a waste of resources, as the fact he has now cancelled these lunches tells us they were wrong.

"Sorry, we made a mistake?" would see the job done.

Don't hold your breath.
