Nicola Sturgeon backs ‘Dancing Queen of Pollokshields’ school fundraiser
Taking to Twitter, Nicola Sturgeon shared a video of Kate Deeming dancing on Nithsdale Road, Pollokshields, dressed as a Christmas tree.
The First Minister labelled Ms Deeming the “Dancing Queen of Pollokshields” and backed her fundraising effort for Pollokshields Primary School.
Ms Deeming was filmed in her season-appropriate attire on Monday, December 14, by local resident Kirstie Swain.
Her video, posted on Twitter, has since been viewed more than one million times.
Ms Swain told The Scotsman: “I was staring out the window when I was meant to be working and I saw the festive vision that is Kate dancing past my window like a tiny Christmas parade.
“All I want for Christmas are some moves like hers. She made my day!”
Ms Deeming who set out to raise £5,000 for Pollokshields Primary School by dancing her way along 50km of Glasgow’s streets in the Christmas tree costume, has already smashed that target - taking in more than £8,200.
She said the school had been “absolute ballast in the storm” for her and her son.
The fundraiser Ms Deeming is backing told supporters: “As locals we see how Pollokshields Primary, which is a marvellous school, provides a stellar commitment and care for the children.
“In this time of unprecedented change, school budgets are very tight and children are facing a whole host of new challenges,” it added.
