Shapes shapes up very well

A RECESSION-LED boom in the antiques trade contributed to a 30 per cent rise in earning for auction house Shapes.

The monthly sale at Shapes, based in Sighthill, has nearly doubled in size during the past two years.

Now there are close to 1,000 lots being sold off during each of the Edinburgh company's events, attracting hundreds of people.

Auctioneer Ally Black said: "We'll do around 1.8 million this year in the auction side of the business, a 30 per cent rise on last year's figures. I think a lot of that is down to the recession."
