One of the worst gaps in 4G coverage on the east coast main line is to be plugged thanks to a deal between train operator LNER and mobile operator O2.
A 45-mile section in Northumberland and North Tyneside is to be upgraded with up to 12 new masts, which will also benefit nearby communities.

Hide AdPlanning permission for the first stage has been approved by Northumberland County Council.
LNER said the final phase will see 5G available in Newcastle Central Station by next summer.
