New Year images 2022: pictures from celebrations around the world - including New York and Dubai

New Year celebrations around the world continued to be a little different this year due to Covid, with different countries implementing different restrictions on gatherings

New Year celebrations were still a little different than normal this year, as the world continues to try and keep Covid-19 cases under control.

While New Year’s Eve events were called off in many locations to help limit the spread, countries across the globe still celebrated in the hopes of a more promising year ahead.

Sydney enjoyed a spectacular fireworks display over the harbour, and New York residents gathered in Times Square to count down to midnight.

A light display was also held in Auckland, New Zealand after limits on public gatherings were eased in time for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

In the UK, revellers in England were been given the green light to celebrate New Year, albeit “cautiously”, but the three devolved nations faced stricter rules.

Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland all had ordered nightclubs to close to reduce the risk of spreading the Omicron variant further, while limits on gatherings were also put in place.

Whether you had a quiet night in or partied with friends and family, here’s a look at how the world rang in 2022.
