Young talent set for a busy summer stage

BUDDING actors, directors and technicians are being invited to take part in this year's Scottish Youth Theatre summer festivals.

The programme has for over 30 years offered young people the chance to work with leading lights in drama, in acting and technical workshops and productions.

Among well-known names who cut their performing teeth at the summer festivals are the singer KT Tunstall and Taggart stars Blythe Duff and Colin McCredie.

Short theatre arts courses for youngsters aged eight to 15 will be held in Edinburgh. Performance and production and technical theatre courses will take those aged up to 25 in Glasgow.

The junior course for ages 8-11 takes place from 9-14 August, with dates to be confirmed for the 12-15 foundation course.

Artistic director Mary McCluskey said: "We are looking forward to welcoming young people from across the country to join us in the exhilarating experience of creating live theatre.

"The summer festival experience will remain with them all for the rest of their lives."
