Blushbooth portable photo booths pay off

AN EDINBURGH firm that provides photo booths for parties, weddings and corporate events is poised to launch a new business after a flash of inspiration, and has come up with a portable version of its product which it claims may be the first of its kind.

Blushbooth, which was founded two-and-a-half years ago by Mark Le Bouedec and Jordan Kay, who met while studying product design at Edinburgh Napier University, capitalises on the increasing popularity of the photo booth snap as a souvenir that snap-happy guests can take home and share on social media.

It has turned over some £500,000, grown to about 20 staff and attends about 600 events a year, and has provided booth services to major brands such as ScottishPower, MTV, Coca Cola, YSL, Disaronno and Bafta.

“We have even had celebrities like James McAvoy in our booths, which was fantastic,” Le Bouedec said, adding: “It’s a really good feeling, especially to see them having fun.”

Building on that success, the pair have now set up Luna Booth, a “pop-up-and-go” portable booth that can be sent direct to the customer for the likes of a party, or even taken abroad for an overseas wedding, for example.

It weighs 15kg and can be set up in five minutes, according to Le Bouedec. “We’ve got very high hopes for this and fingers crossed it does well,” he said, adding that its portable nature could well springboard international expansion.

Blushbooth started out with a booth comprising two Ikea cabinets with an old monitor screen, second-hand lighting and old home printer, and after taking it to a few events like weddings it proved so popular, spreading by word-of-mouth, that demand snowballed.

As for dream events to showcase the business, Le Bouedec said it would be great to take their services to the Oscars, but more immediately the firm is looking to broaden its presence – currently covering Scotland and the north of England – to London. Other additions to its range include video booths and a VW camper van booth.
