Alloa Athletic 2 - 1 Cowdenbeath: Alloa take their chances to top table

ALLOA moved to the top of the Second Division for the first time since September by seeing off Cowdenbeath, who slipped from the summit after their third successive defeat.

The Wasps took the lead when John Grant swept a cross over from the right and Bryan Prunty dashed in to stick out a foot to divert the ball past David Hay from seven yards out.

The Blue Brazil came within inches of levelling five minutes into the second half when Brian Fairbairn fired across the face of David Crawford's goal with the ball zooming less than a foot wide.

Cowdenbeath went close again with a Jon Robertson header and Alloa again broke to the other end, however this time it was with great effect as Stuart Noble shot home at the second attempt.

The Central Park men got back into things midway through the second period when a Brian Fairbairn cross caused panic in the home defence and Paul McQuade slammed home. The chances kept coming at both ends, however there was no further scoring.
