Blaze’s bid extinguished

A disappointing third quarter, in which they slipped to 15 down after being 30-35 down at half-time, gave Boroughmuir Blaze a mountain to climb in the final 10 minutes of their Scottish League
play-off quarter-final second leg at the Crags Sports Centre.

The Capital side, who excelled in forcing a tie in the first leg in Glasgow last Sunday, certainly could not be faulted for effort as they strove to close the gap, with Tomas Cicenas, Michael McGregor and Davy Rowan (twice) all
hitting threes.

But Rowan’s final effort still left them 70-77 down and out of the competition, the students going through to meet Edinburgh Kings in the semi-final while shock winners over Str Mirren, Troon Tornadoes, will play Falkirk Fury.

Cicenas finished with 19 points for Blaze, Rowan 18 and Ben Warrington 14, while John Bustin had 18 for Glasgow, Nicol 16 and Alilovic 15.
