Hobart, on the Island state of Tasmania, will host the next test after Perth was removed as the venue due to strict Covid-19 restrictions in Western Australia.

The fifth and final Ashes Test gets underway this week with a pink ball match as England look to regain a measure of pride having already avoided the whitewash.

Australia have already won the series and currently lead 3-0 after the fourth Test ended as a draw.

The tourists will now look to put a win on that scoreline and build on some of the positives from the Sydney encounter, which included a gusty century from batter Jonny Bairstow.

Where is the fifth Ashes Test being played?

The Bellerive Oval in Hobart will host an Ashes Test for the first time ever.

Tasmania’s capital city has been a traditional venue for England’s warm up games in previous series, but this year it has been added as an official host after strict Covid-19 restrictions in Perth saw the Western Australian city removed.

Hobbart won the right to host the Test with the backing of Australian prime minister Scott Morrison but the stadium will only be at 60 percent capacity due to Tasmania’s Covid-19 restrictions which will allow for a crowd of around 12,000 spectators.

When is the fifth Ashes Test being played?

The fifth Ashes Test gets underway on Friday, January 14 2022.

The final contest is scheduled to be played through to Tuesday, January 18 and will serve as England’s last chance to get a win on the scoreboard after a disappointing series so far.

Australia have already won the series and retained the urn after racing into a 3-0 lead, but the visitors recovered a small measure of pride by avoiding the whitewash when the drew the fourth test.

What are the match timings?

Play is due to get underway at 2pm at the Bellerive Oval, which means a 4am start for UK viewers.

The fifth Test will be the second day-night test in the series so far as England look to make the most of the pink ball - renowned for its ability to swing in the right conditions.

This is the first ever Ashes Test to be held in Hobbart which will also be the smallest venue to ever hold one in the modern era.

Australia have won the 2021/22 Ashes and are taking a 3-0 lead into the fifth and final Test.

England avoided a whitewash with a draw in the fourth Test but there is no way for them to win the series and the can only hope to regain a measure of pride in Tasmania.
