Steven Gerrard was critical of his players in his post-match summary, saying he wanted more from his leaders on the pitch and branded some of his side’s play at Pittodrie as ‘walking football’ while leading 2-0.
Aberdeen came back into the game with Matty Kennedy’s goal which made for nervous closing minutes, but ex-Rangers striker Kris Boyd thinks Gerrard will be delighted with the result regardless of the performance.

Hide Ad“I think maybe we were spoilt in the way Rangers were playing and - let’s be realistic - dismantling teams earlier in the season. It’s not always going to be like that throughout the season. There will be times like [Aberdeen]."
But the former Kilmarnock, Middlesbrough and Scotland striker, turned Sky Sports pundit, added: “If you’d have said to Steven Gerrard I’ll give you a 2-1 win at Aberdeen,he’d be delighted, and bitten your hand off.
“They’ve backed up an Old Firm victory, by coming to another difficult ground, and left with three points.
“You’re maybe looking for little things to criticise your team to keep them on edge, on their toes, and that’s why Steven will be saying the things he is - but inside he’ll be delighted with the three points.”
Rangers fans were also delighted with the win, and full of praise for double goalscorer Alfredo Morelos who Gerrard said deserved the man of the match award.
