Tottenham to ‘rival’ Chelsea and Man City in transfer battle for Premier League defender

Tottenham are desperate to bolster their backline this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are among a number of clubs that have expressed interest in signing Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell, according to The Sun.

The London club have been on the hunt for a full-back all season and are already in the chase for Middlesbrough defender, Djed Spence, but it appears they have now added Mitchell to their list of targets.

The 22-year-old was handed an opportunity at Palace following the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in 2019 and he has established himself as one of their most important players this season.

After making 29 appearances in the Premier League during the current campaign, Mitchell’s superb form earned himself an England call-up ahead of the upcoming international friendlies.

The full-back’s performances have attracted the attention of a number of clubs, with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle also targeting a move.

Spurs will face tough competition in the Premier League trio, but their location in Mitchell’s hometown could prove an advantage for them.

The likes of Matt Doherty, Emerson Royal and Ryan Sessegnon have failed to establish themselves among the league’s best full-backs and Mitchell would certainly have a good chance at becoming first choice under Antonio Conte.

However, it is unclear how much Palace would want if they were to part ways with their academy product.

They have proven they aren’t willing to sell their academy products on the cheap, with their £50 million sale of AWB looking like a pretty good deal on their part.

Mitchell signed a new contract with the Eagles till 2025 last year, so Tottenham and their Premier League rivals will have a difficult task ahead of them if they are to snap him up.
