Miller: Scots must raise game to have any chance in Euros

KENNY MILLER has warned Scotland they must show a massive improvement from recent outings to have any hope of qualifying for the 2012 European Championships.

The striker believes a repeat of the form in the previous campaign under George Burley, which saw the Scots fail to qualify for this summer's World Cup finals, will simply not be good enough.

Instead, he wants the national team to recapture the spirit they displayed in their last Euro qualifying group, when they just missed out despite coming up against some of the strongest teams in the world.

Craig Levein's men will face Spain, Czech Republic, Lithuania and Liechtenstein in a bid to end their exile from major tournaments which stretches back to the 1998 World Cup.

Miller said: "We need to get better than the last campaign, there is no doubt about that.

"Hopefully, we can find the form that we found in the previous Euro campaign, when we had France, Italy and Ukraine.

"To go so close in a group like that shows that the players and the team do have it in them to challenge the best teams.

"There is no doubt the last campaign was way below that standard but we've got to find that standard again if we are going to get the second spot and qualify.

"It's good to see the draw and know who we've got for the forthcoming campaign. It could have been better but it could have been worse.

"Personally, I would have preferred another team in the group but we are in a group of five again. Hopefully, we get the right results and can be in there at the business end of the campaign."
